Vera Wang’s Spring 2016 Bridal Collection

Vera Wangat Brown's

Vera Wang at Brown’s

Vera Wang began a sweeping transformation of the bridal industry in 1990 with the opening of her flagship salon at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City. Even today, the salon showcases bridal collections known for its’ sophisticated drama, feminine detailing and contemporary approach to design. Vera Wang’s renown unique fashion has dressed high-profile clientèle such as Michelle Obama, Emma Watson and Sandra Bullock. Last month brought the bridal haven that is Vera Wang’s Spring 2016 Bridal Collection to Vera Wang at Brown’s just off London’s infamous Bond Street.

The collection caters for the millennial woman who is liberal and wants to feel free. It features soft floral French nets and attention to small floral details. Vera Wang conventionally uses traditional cuts and decided to take a different approach, and execute a collection with delicate flow and gorgeous light fabrics in soft white and cream hues. The show-stopper within the collection for me was the black corset-style bridal gown with black soft feathers that crafts the skirt. Not only does this look elegant and glamorous, but it creates a dramatic look and is certainly one of a kind to walk down the aisle in.

Vera Wang also announced the début of her Spring 2016 Bride Collection via a short film titled ‘Hotel Madrid’, directed by Gordon von Steiner; this is definitely worth watching.

If you want to look seductive through sophistication on your wedding day, then Vera Wang is your ultimate answer. See my favourite selection of bridal dresses from their collection below.

Inside our event with Suneet Varma, Tarun Tahiliani and Judith Leiber

In May, we had the privilege of hosting a special boutique event with leading designers Suneet Varma, Tarun Tahiliani and Judith Leiber Couture. We took over the beautiful Penthouse of the May Fair Hotel to create an exclusive retail experience for our clients. It was a tremendous success and here is an inside video of the event.

The Creators: Admirable Crichton, Tamarind Collection

It’s often the case that those who create an event or make that event just so, get overlooked. Not in this case, for Think Shaadi Boutique presents Suneet Varma, Tarun Tahiliani and Judith Leiber, it was party planners Admirable Crichton and Tamarind Collection, who both teamed up in a joint venture, that made our event glisten.

The team at Admirable Crichton conceptualised the event magnificently. Spawning from a simple idea, to produce classically tailored parties that capture moments of magic, Admirable Crichton have made a name for themselves as the creators of luxuriously executed and finely honed events. They have caught the eye of HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, and now hold a Royal Warrant.

From weddings to birthday parties to fashion events, Admirable Crichton work with a firm set of values, which are making sure each event is tailored to the customers requirements. Melding together age old principles with contemporary flare, in their own words – “With impeccable attention to detail, we oversee every aspect from the napkins and table setting to planning your honeymoon itinerary, design, decoration and entertainment, we have an enviable address book of the best suppliers and subcontractors in the world.”

The crux of Admirable Crichton’s success is their devotion to heritage, cherry picking the best of what has gone before and reworking it for the modern era. Covering everything from venues to catering, they are truly a Renaissance company.

Tamarind Collection, the caterers extraordinaire, remain a steadfast favourite of anyone wishing to experience mouthwatering cuisine, that is magnificently presented. A versatile brand, Tamarind Collection operate four restaurants in London and L.A, with a rich history, beginning in 1995, and a versatile range of menus, the group have notched up some amazing achievements in 20 years.

Taking traditional Indian cuisine and injecting a fresh and bountiful zeal into it, Tamarind Collection offer a variety of classic staples such as Zaffrani Macchi, consisting of king fish chunks marinated with ginger, fresh mint, lime-leaf, green chilli and saffron, and Hyderabadi Shanks, slow-cooked lamb shanks with browned onions, ginger, garlic, yoghurt and ground spices. Their meals are a true feast.

Tamarind Collection have been courted by some of the UK’s biggest and most loved organisations, including Lords Cricket Ground, English Heritage and the Science Museum. Their London restaurant Tamarind of London was awarded ‘Best Indian Cuisine’ at the 2012 Golden Foodie Awards. They have said that “over the years the Tamarind Collection’s fundamental philosophy has remained unchanged; to prepare exquisite food and that is coupled with service that is approachable and unobtrusive in stylish environments.”

Admirable Crichton and Tamarind Collection are individual forces of creative brilliance, but their collaboration for Think Shaadi boutique brought these forces together beautifully. With the creation of a magical environment that showcased the designs in a manner befitting them.

Menu for our event included Spiced mixed paneer with mango in filo cup, Ground lamb cakes with cinnamon, garlic and chilli and Spiced potato vegetable croquettes coated with golden vermicelli.

Tarun Tahiliani: A Wonderful Drama

Tarun Tahiliani’s bridal collection, shown at India Couture Week, is a rich and evocative drama, adorned with a lustre of tradition and ancient crafts. It has been said that Tahiliani really knows how to put together a collection, it’s something that fashion devotees anticipate with immense glee, and as always he doesn’t disappoint.

His collections always emanate with a warm and sensuous glow. Forever original, this time around Tahiliani sought out inspiration from the ancient regional crafts of India, rendering it with his trademark razzle dazzle. For the couture range he created a wildly dramatic array of gowns, tempered by a delicate palette of colours, extraordinarily feminine in execution, he managed to balance so harmoniously the elements of frenzy with the demure.

Tahiliani’s previous collection was all regal splendour, cherry picking his inspirations from the beauty of Mughal India, this time it was about the crafts that India has been famous for for centuries. The wondrous textile industry that began in the small villages and towns.

The echoes of a thousand artisans are woven into this collection, from the material to the intricate embroidery, it pays a glorious homage to the stylistics and craftsmanship of the past. Each design incorporates something individual, something of heritage, from their Tahiliani injects a flurry of modernity and crowns it with his luxurious touch.

In Tahiliani’s own words – “Glimpses of shimmering gold, hues of soft pastels and a whimsical frothiness are reminiscent of an era of charm and elegance. Creating couture which keeps distinctive Indian crafts alive, while exploring visions in sparkling crystal and carat, reflects emotions that give shape to sensuous, elegant and bespoke luxury for brides, grooms and their families as well as for other occasions. This collection will be living, breathing heritage, melded with the fresh vibrancy and essence of modern India.” As always, Tarun Tahiliani reminds us that the flower of creativity can only truly flourish when designers pay their respects to what has gone before.

Most recently, at Lakme Fashion Week, Tarun showcased his Summer Resort collection, which is a kaleidoscope of colours, a sheer explosion of fun and frivolity prevailed. The theme embodies a party, a mardi gras of festive patterns and cleverly matched colours.

Bohemian chic is the prevailing feel, with floaty cottons and an eclectic array of silks. The collection is a bountiful display of relaxation and freedom.

Suneet Varma: Decorative Arts Of India

We know Suneet Varma as one of the emerging maestros’ of the Indian fashion fraternity. Suneet’s journey started from graduating at the London College of Fashion, leading on to his work with Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. His milestones grew throughout the years from hosting India’s first international fashion and style program, ‘Suneet Varma’s Style Guru’  for Star World TV, to being a franchisee partner in India for ‘Armani Junior’. Suneet Varma’s latest collection was showcased at the Spring Couture 2015 Show for Lakme Fashion Week at the Palladium Hotel, Mumbai. His collection titled ‘Decorative Arts of India’ speaks of romance, femininity and flirtatiousness. It draws inspiration from the traditional motifs and embroideries of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan and the Southern states of India. Suneet says, “India has had centuries of old love affair with couture or made to measure for pleasure. There is no denying the luxurious indulgence of precious finery, the magical beauty of one‐ off embellished wedding attire and the sparkle of personalized jewels that are made to match with it.”

Suneet Varma

The collection has customary Indian attire with a contemporary twist. This time Suneet uses a lot of shades of red from sindoor to fuchsia pinks from rose to deep magenta that lie within Rajasthan. Stark white and ivory with color-on-color aari embroidery, dark navy and cobalt blue with antique, burnt gold and copper thread embellish these stunning lehengas. Some of the pieces imbue in mirror work embellishment within the large borders in the thread embroidery. These impeccable details and fabrics create a distinct regal look.

Suneet Varma

The silhouettes of long and slender layering in sheer fabrics from the two-piece sarees with embellished corset blouses, delicate antique zardosi, long anarkali kurtas with mirror work and thread embroidered all over jaal accolade the collection. The short tunics have colour-on-colour thread and Swarovski crystals with draped dhoti salwars, Angrakha style kalidar kurtas worn with short cropped jackets with draped collars and delicate bead embroidery. The fabrics used in those are in luscious silk chiffon, Georgette, silk jacquard and jewel-toned rich velvets; with yet again these characteristics pervading royalty and luxuriousness.

Suneet Varma

The collection also features sheer chiffon sarees decked with gold aari and thread embroidery in large floral motifs reminiscent of the beauty of the Punjab royalty. A mix of traditional Indian textiles in bright colors combined with the sensibility of the royal costumes of India. The collection uses white on white thread embroidery with a dash of colour on long and short tunics with Capri trousers and Patiala salwars with tasseled triangular stoles.

Suneet Varma

Overall, there is an array of sophistication executed in many forms within Suneet’s attire from the silhouettes of the collection which are slim, sheer and narrow with very delicate embroideries down to the use of lavishing fabrics. I admire how he has placed thought into every slight detail of each piece, may it be the use of nostalgic antique embroideries or using a variety of blue shades. His collection really does depict the ‘Decorative Arts Of India’. Now to see my personal top 3 favourite pieces from the collection (talk about a hard choice to make!).
