This season, Rohit Bhal has focused on floral prints. Even if it is a small part on the outfit, Bhal keeps the theme consistent throughout his collection. With the warm colours chosen, these outfits would suit any skin tone and brilliant for the wedding seasons as well as the weather.

Bhal has used these prints in the right places. For occasion wear, he has carried the prints on the skirts which brings out a dramatic look and will turn heads no matter what occasion. For the more simply look he places the prints on either a top corner or bottom of a dress, which again gives a simple touch and can be worn on days where you want to simply enjoy the sunshine.

Our Top 5 Sherwanis for this Wedding Season

There’s nothing more masculine, more eye catching and more beautiful than a finely designed sherwani for a wedding. Much like female wedding attire, male occasion wear has progressed dramatically in the last 15 years, with numerous collections by famed designers such as Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra et al, exploring the many facets of sherwani design.

Finding the perfect sherwani is a lot like finding a good car, it needs to feel right, suit your individuality and above all it needs to be exquisitely designed in order to make you stand out from the crowd.

With that being said, we’ve picked the top 5 sherwani’s by some of the best designers in the business.

rohit12oct13

1. This is from Rohit Bal’s most recent collection, a resplendent piece, the mix of black and gold makes for a classic statement. The pattern is what makes this sherwani stand out, with it’s hypnotic arrangements that were inspired by Mughal prints, although to look at it, there is definitely hints of French Rococo in their too. The black collar and cuffs set the piece off superbly.

Amir-Adnan-Sherwani-012

2. Amir Adnan is one of Pakistan’s premier menswear designers, favouring the classical styles, he is like a sartorial magician, who mixes just the right amount of patterns, motifs etc, with brilliant stitching, which always culminates in a mesmerising piece. This sherwani from his couture collection is, in one word, regal. First off the pattern is beautiful, yet understated, a lot like most of Amir’s designs, but note the intricacy of the collar and cuff design, with its floral pattern sewn in gold thread, it is overwhelmingly a masculine piece.

3. It’s fair to say that Manish Malhotra has been one of the leading lights in traditional menswear designs, he was in fact one of the first Indian designers to give traditional Indian menswear a makeover, with his creative approach of mixing the old with the new, the indigenous with the western. This is one of his best, it’s understated yet unique and will certainly make you stand out from the crowd. Stripes are always winner, and the rich, warming colour scheme is the icing on the cake.

Tarun-Tahiliani-Traditional-Groom-Collection

4. If you’re looking for an unabashed, ornate statement piece, look no further than the mighty Tarun Tahiliani. This is from his 2014 traditional groom collection will blow quite literally blow your mind. Tarun has well and truly put his all into this creation. Th jacquard patterning is lifted from the Mughal period, looking at this it’s definitely from the ostentatious reign of Akbar. From top to bottom, no space is left unseen to, as the rich pattern covers every inch. If you wear this, it will definitely give you a sharp confidence boost.

5. Raghavendra Rathore is the master of creating collections that are drench in ethereal fantasy, this also extends to his menswear collections. This recent piece, with its handsome pairing of gold and purple, it’s a supremely attractive creation. A unique factor is that it does away with the traditional collar, yet certainly doesn’t skimp on the traditional pattern design. It’s one of the most unique that we have come across, in the sense that Raghavendra is clearly pushing the creative limits.

In the end, it’s all about what you think looks good on you, but we feel that these five designers really know how to make a man look his best at a wedding.

Rohit Bal’s Spectacular Ode to Heritage

rohit_bal1

Rohit Bal is a designer one would have to describe as quintessentially Indian, in both design as well as the execution of his shows. Although born in Kashmir, as a designer he is definitely a product of New Delhi, a place which has given birth to a succession of talent, each more intriguing than the last.

rohit1oct13

With a degree in History from St. Stephens College, it is the past which remains a source of inspiration for Bal, he’s developed a distinctive quality for reaching far back into the depths of history and creating modern beauty from it.

rohit2oct13

Made famous for his speciality of including Lotus and Peacock motifs into his designs, he is a designer who is steadfast in capturing the richness of Indian fashion, infusing art historical passion with contemporary design aesthetics.

rohit3oct13

Recently he proved his worth as a designer who can not only create gorgeous designs, but also put together a breathtaking show. At Will Fashion Week, Bal was one of the final designers to showcase his collection.

It’s not unusual to say, but the majority of shows which take place during the end of most fashion weeks are never anything exciting, but Rohit Bal well and truly broke with tradition.

rohit12oct13

The venue was Quli Khan’s Tomb at the Mehrauli Archaeological site in Delhi. For a designer known for a love of history, it was indeed the perfect setting. To begin, the soundtrack to the show was perfect, with live music performed by Shubha Mudgal.

secondrohitoct13

The tone and theme of this setting was romance, heaps of it, along with ancient mystery, classical style and evocative luxury, with a set designed by Sumant Jayakrishnan. Everything here, down to the last detail, was about framing the collection in the best of Indian heritage and culture.

rohit11oct134

The show attracted a throng of guests, with the famed French shoe designer Christian Louboutin gracing the front row. It has to be said that Rohit Bal is one of few Indian designers to attract attention from his design contemporaries around the globe.

rohit4oct13

Bal’s collection is titled “Gulbagh” and the inspiration was Mughal opulence, not the city dwelling Mughal’s we usually think of though, the great warriors and statesman, but the Mughal’s at leisure, in their pleasure palaces, nestled in the valleys of Kashmir.

rohit10oct13

As per usual Bal’s design techniques mixed the age old with the contemporary, incorporating vegetable dyes and gold leaf for embellishments, and a range of fabrics like chanderi, fine mulmul, matka silk and velvet.

rohit8oct13

The collection was very distinctive in the fact that Bal incorporated a wealth of flora and fauna into his patterns, from roses and other delicate flowers, to tree leaves. The effect was truly mesmerising, as all the embellishments were brought forth in mesmerising colours such as reds, purples, cream, greens and blues.

rohit6oct13

With petite female models in prettily adorned lehengas with peplum blouses, embroidered jackets and saris, and princely male models (one of which was the king of machismo Arjun Rampal) doned in handsome achkans and churidars, the collection was a triumph.

rohit7oct13

Without hesitation, Rohit Bal deserved his rapturous standing ovation.
